Farm Game Camera Number 01 | ||
The first game camera that we placed out on the farm was a Christmas present from Joni's parents in December 2007. This game camera was a Stealth Cam model I450, a 4.0 mexapixel camera. It used 6 size-C batteries. This camera was attached to a small tree in the middle of the field that we call Joe's Pasture; the date was February 10, 2008. One of the reasons that we chose this spot, was the fact that deer were obviously rubbing at the base of this tree (see photograph to left). Reflective of the problem that we have here on the farm, the most frequent animal that shows up on the game camera are feral hogs. And we do have bunch of them. My favorite photograph among the gallery below would have to be the two deer butting heads, dated February 27, 2008. There's also an unidentified hawk on the date of March 27, 2008. Anecdotally we've heard that game cameras are very inconsistent in quality. This particular camera lasted only six months or so, and then quit working. Also, the flash mechanism never worked, so we didn't get any night pictures. But we did obtain some very interesting pictures during its working lifetime. The last good photograph from this camera was taken in May 21, 2008. After that date, the photographs were either all black (from the night) or completely washed out (during the day). I removed the camera in the summer, and replaced it a few months later with Game Camera #2. Gallery from Game Camera #1 |
