I was walking across the street to photograph some rain lilies which had sprung up in my neighbor's yard after a recent rain. This female hummingbird was feeding at the Coral Yucca next to my driveway. Luckily I had my telephoto lens on and not my macro. I did what I always do when I see hummingbirds: throw the ISO to 1600, choose a fast shutter speed, and hope real hard! This photograph was the only good one of the half dozen photographs I took before the hummingbird flew off. My sister, Emily, helped confirm that it was a female Ruby-throated Hummingbird.
