Genus Sympetrum

The genus Sympetrum--commonly known as the Meadowhawks--is a group of dragonflies which are usually yellow or red in color. Thirteen of the sixty or so known species can be found in North America. John Abbott details nine of those in his book Dragonflies and Damselflies of Texas and the South-Central United States.

Sympetrum corruptum
Common name is Variegated Meadowhawk, and is the most widespread meadowhawk in Texas.
