On a weekend afternoon outing, Joni and I took our dog, Rudy, to Cypress Creek Park. A couple of years ago, we had been there swimming. Now, as a result of the terrible 2009 drought, the park is high and dry: no water in sight, except for the creek itself. The lake looks a mile away. Walking along the parking lot road, I saw this male Ladder-backed Woodpecker and managed a couple of mediocre photographs: this one and also one here. A little later, walking back, I would see a female: here, here and here. The sky was quite overcast: a very gray day.
