My friend Ananda Debnath and I were birding at Cypress Creek Park. While he was patiently waiting for a Bewick's Wren to exit from hiding (which it finally did, and Ananda got a great photograph), I wandered off and walked down to the boat ramp which was high-and-dry from the year's drought. This dragonfly was skittish at my approach, moving away as I tried to get closer. I don't think I could have managed a macro-lens shot, even if I had had that lens on the camera at the time. But I used my 100-300 mm telephoto to obtain this photograph. The creek is about 50 yards away, and the meadow is full of insects; it makes for good hunting for the Meadowhawk.

My identification of this dragonfly has been confirmed on the OdonataCentral page here.
